King Felipe VI of Spain arrived in the city of Arequipa on Tuesday to participate in the opening ceremony of the 10th International Congress of the Spanish Language (CILE).

The aircraft carrying the Spanish monarch landed in the southern Peruvian metropolis at 4:40 p.m. (local time).

His Majesty is scheduled to lead the solemn opening session at the Municipal Theater, along with authorities from the Cervantes Institute, the Royal Spanish Academy, and writers.

During his stay in Arequipa, King Felipe VI is expected to visit the Mario Vargas Llosa House Museum, as well as take part in other activities linked to our Nobel literature laureate.

The 10th CILE began on Tuesday featuring various plenary sessions. It will continue through Friday, October 17.

This is the first time that the International Congress of the Spanish Language is being held in Peru.

The designation of Arequipa as the host of this event was one of the requests made during the lifetime of Nobel literature laureate Vargas Llosa.

Therefore, in addition to the plenary sessions on the topics convened for this Congress, various activities to honor the acclaimed Peruvian writer will also take place.
