Peru: Facebook promotes electoral participation

10:19 | Lima, Apr. 12.

For the 2026 General Elections, Facebook has activated its electoral megaphone to provide users with essential voting information within the framework of today's vote.

The initiative serves as a reminder for users to fulfill their civic duty.

It allows people to find out how many Peruvians on the platform have reported participating in Election Day.

In addition, users can access a button that redirects them to the National Office of Electoral Processes (ONPE) website, where they can check their polling place and voter number.

Peruvian users may share their participation through the option "Share that you voted."

Meanwhile, two dedicated stickers are available in Facebook Stories to support election-related conversations.

According to Facebook, a multidisciplinary team will operate today during the electoral process to respond quickly and detect potential violations of platform policies.

The team combines artificial intelligence and human review to address possible incidents in real time, including attempts at voter suppression, content promoting violence, and the spread of false information.

Cooperation with electoral authorities and political advertising

Facebook is collaborating with ONPE to promote civic participation and safeguard the election’s integrity across Facebook, WhatsApp, and Instagram.

Since March 11, 2021, the use of transparency tools for political and electoral advertising has been mandatory in Peru. These tools allow users to identify who is responsible for the political ads they see on Facebook and Instagram.

All political and electoral advertising on both platforms must include a "Paid for by" label, and advertisers are required to complete an authorization process confirming their identity and residence in Peru.

This electoral process will allow citizens to choose the next President of the Republic, Vice Presidents, Senators, Deputies, and Representatives to the Andean Parliament.
