The Peruvian Council of State on Thursday requested the population not to let its guard down in the fight against COVID-19 and to be responsible in this new coexistence established through a localized quarantine.

A statement informed that —during today's meeting— the Executive Branch had reported on the evolution of COVID-19, as well as the actions and efforts being carried out to achieve better results.

"Furthermore, it was proved that the health response capacity against the pandemic has improved. In this sense, it was agreed to call on the population not to let the guard down (…)," a statement read.

Another discussed aspect was the importance of the economic reactivation to generate jobs aimed at achieving well-being.

"Likewise, it is necessary to improve the efficiency of public spending at the three levels of government," it added.

Earlier today, Peruvian President Martin Vizcarra led the fifth session of the Council of State in search of consensus to strengthen the reforms that citizens and the country need.

Initially set to last from March 16 to 30, the nationwide quarantine came to an end on June 30.
