During a plenary session on Thursday, Parliament approved the proposal for the debate and vote on the impeachment motions against President Dina Boluarte to take place tonight at 11:30 p.m. (local time).
Thus, the request from several parliamentary groups is accepted so that the four impeachment motions admitted today are exempted from the timeframe established in Article 89 of Congress' Regulations.
The article states that the debate and vote must take place within no less than three and no more than 10 days.
It also establishes that the vote of four-fifths of Congress members is required to apply this exception.
This figure was surpassed, as the proposal by the Parliament Board obtained 118 votes from lawmakers.
After the vote, Congress Chairman Jose Jeri reported that President Dina Boluarte will be summoned to exercise her right to a defense before the plenary for up to 60 minutes, either in person or assisted by a lawyer.
In this regard, he stated that personnel from Parliament's Chief Clerk Office will go to the Government Palace to deliver the corresponding document, in addition to submitting it through the Presidential Office's virtual registry office.
