Peru, Chile mourn death of bolero singer Lucho Barrios

President Alan Garcia Perez expressed his deep sorrow over the death of renowned bolero singer Lucho Barrios, saying that his loss brings much grief and sadness to Peruvians and fans in other countries.

"I did not know that he was so ill. His death brings grief to Peru and many bolero lovers," said the Peruvian leader after inaugurating the upgraded Bartolome Herrera school in Lima.

The Chilean media also reported on the death of the Marabu singer, who has legions of fans in many Latin American countries such as Chile, Ecuador and Mexico.

"Romantic music lost one of its true legendary figures: Lucho Barrios is dead," reads an article published on Chilean newspaper El Mercurio Online.

"He always sang to suffering hearts, until his heart stop beating. Peruvian singer Lucho Barrios, an icon of romantic music in Latin America with strong ties with Chile, has died." 

The 75-year-old singer, also known as the King of Bolero, died of diabetes related complications on Wednesday morning at Lima’s Dos de Mayo Hospital.
