The official confirmation of
Pope Leo XIV's visit to Chiclayo, scheduled for the second half of November, has generated great anticipation among authorities, business leaders, and residents, who are already preparing to welcome thousands of domestic and international visitors.
David Cardenas, Deputy Tourism and Culture Manager at the Provincial Municipality of Chiclayo, told Andina News Agency that the tourism sector views the Supreme Pontiff's arrival as a historic opportunity to boost the local economy, strengthen visitor services, and position Chiclayo as a major religious travel destination in Peru.
He added that preparations are already underway at hotels, restaurants, and travel agencies, with training programs aimed at improving visitor services, strengthening health and sanitation measures, and optimizing solid waste management.
Likewise, urban infrastructure improvement projects are being carried out.
Although the Lambayeque Region Government is leading the main package of road infrastructure projects, the Provincial Municipality is also carrying out improvements on various city streets to help enhance Chiclayo's urban image ahead of the papal visit.
Among the initiatives is an urban renewal proposal for Chiclayo's monumental district, which includes repainting building facades according to a defined color scheme, with the aim of beautifying the historic center and providing a better experience for visitors.
He noted that another important project is the installation of 67 tourist information signs, which is scheduled for this semester, pending the corresponding approval from the Decentralized Directorate of Culture.

In addition, coordination efforts with local artisans and entrepreneurs are being strengthened to boost the "Pope's Route," promoting the sale of handicrafts, souvenirs, and products representative of the region.
Although there is not yet any official coordination with the Diocese of Chiclayo regarding the details of the visit, authorities indicated that final arrangements will be formalized following President Jose Maria Balcazar's trip to the Vatican on June 19.
"There is great joy among the people of Chiclayo. We are working to ensure that the Pope's visit takes place smoothly and becomes a growth opportunity for the entire city," Cardenas indicated.
Pope Leo XIV's arrival promises to mark a turning point for Chiclayo, not only because of its religious significance, but also due to the economic, tourism, and social impact it is expected to generate across the entire region.
