08:40 | Caylloma (Arequipa region), Oct. 9.

The tourist flow in Colca Valley —Arequipa region's main destination— has shown significant growth in recent months for the sector, reaching a total of 233,043 visitors from January to September.

The figure is slightly higher than that recorded in the same period last year, Alfonso Mamani reported.

Mamani is mayor of Caylloma province and Colca Autonomous Authority (Autocolca) board chairman.

The official noted that last September the presence of foreign tourists surpassed that of domestic visitors, who until a few months ago had accounted for the largest number of sightseers.

Mamani stated that foreign tourist arrivals in Colca Valley are expected to continue growing through year-end.

He added that his administration will keep working on tourism promotion both abroad and domestically.

Last September, 17,312 foreign tourists arrived in Colca Valley, compared to 15,778 visitors in the same month the previous year, the municipal authority specified.

Mamani expressed his satisfaction with the figures obtained so far and confidence in their continued growth, estimating that the year will end with over 300,000 tourists visiting the Colca Valley.
