Peru appoints APEC 2024 high-level meeting chair

The Peruvian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has appointed Ambassador Carlos Vasquez Corrales as Chairman of Senior Officials' Meetings at the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum 2024.

The designation was made official via Ministerial Resolution No. 0471-2023-RE published in the Official Gazette El Peruano on Tuesday.

Vasquez Corrales will perform said duty from October 15, 2023, to December 31, 2024.

This designation comes in the context that Peru will exercise the APEC Pro-Tempore Presidency during 2024, hosting meetings of said forum's senior officials.

Preparations and meetings

The Senior Officials' Meeting is intended to coordinate preparations for the APEC Leaders' Summit.

Vasquez Corrales is a member of the Diplomatic Service. His resume shows that he had served as Peruvian Ambassador to Singapore.

In addition to the Senior Officials' Meeting, other ministerial-type gatherings, including working and task groups, committees, subcommittees and experts, the Business Advisory Council, the Business Summit, as well as seminars, symposia, and workshops of national and international nature, will be held in Peru on that occasion.
