National Elections Board (JNE) Chairman Roberto Burneo on Sunday morning called on citizens to cast their ballots in the presidential runoff election held today.

Within this framework, the electoral authority assured that the institution he leads will act objectively, transparently, and independently.

"This election day constitutes a fundamental moment for our democracy and provides an opportunity for every citizen to exercise their right to choose, allowing the will of the people to be expressed freely, peacefully, and sovereignly," Burneo said at a press conference.

He said the electoral system is ready for this democratic exercise and that, after overseeing the deployment of election materials, authorities can now guarantee that all of them are already at polling places.

The JNE chief highlighted that the institutions comprising the electoral system have worked continuously and in a coordinated manner to ensure the conditions necessary for the proper conduct of the vote.

He reported that the JNE has deployed more than 28,000 monitors nationwide, who have been supervising every stage of the electoral process, with the aim of contributing to transparency, legality, and public trust.

Burneo also expressed his appreciation to polling station members, election monitors, national and international observers, the Armed Forces, the Peruvian National Police, the Ombudsman's Office, the Comptroller General's Office, and National Elections Board (JNE) personnel.

He noted that they are carrying out an important duty in service of the country today.

Calls for respect for results

The JNE head said that, from this moment onward, it is time to await the results.

In that regard, he assured citizens that they can be confident.

He noted that the JNE and the Special Electoral Boards (JEE) will act objectively and transparently, "providing reasons for their decisions and, above all, operating independently while guaranteeing the rights of each of our citizens."

"We call on political organizations, their leaders, party members, supporters, as well as the general public to act with democratic responsibility and to respect the freely expressed will of the people," he emphasized.

Burneo stressed that every vote counts and that citizens' decisions deserve to be respected.

"May this election day, this democratic exercise, serve as an example," he concluded.

JNE dashboard

Following his remarks, the chairman presented the JNE Fiscaliza (JNE Oversight) dashboard, which provides real-time monitoring of every stage of the electoral process.

"This is a very powerful tool that will be continuously updated based on information validated by the Board, and any issues that could lead to errors will be corrected immediately," Burneo pointed out.
