on Wednesday reported that a total of 1,574,423 tons of anchovy were unloaded between May 4 and June 12, 2022. This figure accounts for 56.4% of the total maximum allowable catch limit (LMTCP) set for the current fishing season.
Within this framework, the main ports were Chimbote, Pisco, and Callao.
According to
Imarpe, it has been verified that fish caught by the industrial fleet showed a diverse range of sizes with a mode of 12.0 cm (even up to 17.0 cm in total length), as well as an incidence of juvenile specimens of 24.4% in number and 16.0% in weight in the advance of landings to date.
Imarpe reports also indicate that the average daily incidence of juveniles has been decreasing as expected due to the process of spatial separation between juveniles and adults, according to the dynamics of the sea.
This has also been strengthened by the implementation of immediate closure of various areas due to the high incidence of juveniles —oriented both to the mobility of the industrial fleet which carries out activities in said areas, as well as to the dispersion and dynamics of anchovy.
It should be noted that the anchovy population of the northern-central region has been in good condition for several decades, specifying that biomass of the northern-central stock in 2022 stands at 9,780,370 tons (a figure 40% higher compared to that observed in 2021 and 15% higher than the average biomass between 1996 and 2021).
This is due to the responsible and adaptive management which is being incorporated year after year in the regulation of said resource, Imarpe pointed out.
