The year 2023 marked the commemoration of the 200th anniversary of Peru-UK bilateral relations, with our country receiving a greeting from King Charles III, who highlighted that both nations have developed a common history, shared values, and a deep alliance throughout these two centuries.

Therefore, King Charles III sees with optimism that the close friendship and strong ties between both countries will continue to flourish in the coming years.

Within the framework of this significant anniversary, Peru's Foreign Trade and Tourism Minister Juan Carlos Mathews traveled to London to hold meetings with investors interested in seeking opportunities in Peru, as well as to inaugurate the permanent exhibition of Peru at the British Museum, thus strengthening bilateral ties.

"We have had several meetings with financial sector firms, such as Goldman Sachs, quite well-known globally, which works with many clients who are investors in different parts of the world," Mathews told the Official Gazette El Peruano.

"We have also had meetings with tour operators from England that work with Latin America, including LATA, which has a strong interest in promoting Peru, and we are reviewing PromPeru's strategies in the UK market to attract tourists, taking advantage of the fact that there will be a direct flight from London to Lima starting December 2 of this year," the minister specified.

"This is excellent news for the tourist flow and even for the flow of fresh perishable products, such as asparagus, which Peru also exports to this market," he added.

Peruvian exports to the UK market have increased from US$730 million in 2017 to US$2.080 billion, according to statistics from the Peruvian Exporters Association (Adex).

Likewise, Minister Mathews highlighted the strong interest of the United Kingdom in strengthening the trade and investment relationship.

"They have a strong interest in continuing to participate in Government-to-Government projects, as they have done for the (Lima 2019) Pan American Games and educational centers, and they want to see (analyze) investment opportunities in infrastructure," he noted.

The Cabinet member also highlighted the United Kingdom's strength in technology —a field that Peru can take advantage of to incorporate technological advances such as for the development of various productive sectors.
