Peru holds a strategic position in two areas of global concern, namely energy transition and food security, Economy and Finance Minister Elmer Cuba said in the United States, on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly meetings.
During his presentation at the Atlantic Council in New York on Tuesday, the government official emphasized that the South American country's economic conditions are solid enough to participate in both global trends.
"Our country occupies a unique position at the convergence of some of the most relevant economic and strategic trends in the world today," he underscored.
Likewise, the Cabinet member highlighted that Peru is one of the leading producers of critical minerals for the energy transition and strengthens global food security by being an agro-export powerhouse.
The Atlantic Council in New York is a think tank and forum for analysis and debate on international affairs, as well as economic and strategic relations.
During his presentation to the audience, the minister explained that Peru is developing the infrastructure, supply chains, institutions, and partnerships needed to compete and prosper in the 21st century.
In this regard, the Cabinet member emphasized that, thanks to its economic strength, Peru is prepared to "be a reliable partner of the United States."
On the other hand, Minister Cuba participated in a meeting that President of the Republic Keiko Fujimori held with Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) representatives in New York City.
He said it was a strategic meeting during which the multilateral organization's cooperation with Peru was reaffirmed.
Four areas of cooperation were established: education, infrastructure, El Niño phenomenon prevention, and Peruvian State modernization.
These activities took place as part of President Keiko Fujimori's working week abroad, whose main purpose was her participation in the High-Level General Debate of the 81st United Nations General Assembly session.
Meanwhile, Deputy Finance Minister Erick Lahura participated in parallel meetings with IDB representatives to discuss the importance of accelerating adaptation to climate change, as well as mechanisms to strengthen the country's resilience and advance solutions to address extreme weather events.
The Peruvian delegation is carrying out an intensive agenda.
It includes important meetings with credit rating agencies, financial sector representatives, multilateral organizations, and mining and energy companies operating in the country.
