The Head of State held a working meeting with the Board of Directors of the National Assembly of Regional Governments (ANGR) at the Government Palace in Lima.
On the occasion, the President was joined by Prime Minister Violeta Bermudez, as well as Ministers Waldo Mendoza (Economy-Finance) and Oscar Ugarte (Health).
"I want to reaffirm that you are part of the Executive Branch. The regions and the National Government must work together," Mr. Sagasti expressed.
"We are a few months away from completing the term in office, but during this time, as you have witnessed, we will continue to work intensively and hand-in-hand to solve the problems that had not been solved for many years," he emphasized.
Priorities
Moreover, the statesman reminded attendees the Government's priorities such as: fighting COVID-19, reactivating the economy, organizing clean and transparent elections, supporting the development of the education sector, and tackling corruption.
"We have dedicated the vast majority of our efforts and resources to the fight against the pandemic and the health crisis. As you have heard on more than one occasion, the ministers of Health and Economy have indicated that the resources, which must be allocated to the health sector, are the main priority. We are fulfilling that, and you know it very well," he noted.
Concerning the economic reactivation, the leader indicated that the constant concern for his administration "is how to find that difficult balance between taking care of the health and lives of all Peruvians while, at the same time, taking care of the means of earning a living."
"The answer is not easy. We always have to look for a solution that must be progressively adjusted based on how the circumstances vary. It is not a situation for people to say 'it is like that and it stays that way for all time,'" Mr. Sagasti stated.
He also reaffirmed the Government's commitment to remaining absolutely neutral in the general elections scheduled for April 11.
