The President of the Republic Francisco Sagasti, Prime Minister Violeta Bermudez, and Foreign Affairs Minister Allan Wagner on Thursday held a meeting with the OAS Electoral Observation Mission led by former Paraguayan Foreign Affairs Minister Ruben Ramirez.

On the occasion, the Head of State thanked the Organization of American States (OAS) for having accepted the invitation made by the National Elections Board (JNE) to pay a visit to the country.

Likewise, the top official expressed the willingness of his administration to support and facilitate the work of the Electoral Observation Mission in the coming general elections.

Furthermore, the statesman highlighted that this participation contributes to strengthening democracy and transparency.

The mission will also observe the voting process in some consulates, as these will host 977,292 Peruvian citizens residing abroad who —for the first time— will elect two direct representatives to Congress.

The event took place at the Government Palace in Lima.
