—when he became President in November 2020— the Republic of Peru did not rely on any firm contracts for the purchase of vaccines, but letters of intent and a framework contract that required other specific agreements in order to be valid.
The statesman reminded governors that
so far no purchases of vaccine doses are made through private agents at the international level.
"What we have seen are some unscrupulous attempts by agents to offer vaccines without guarantee and, as Interpol has pointed out, those are counterfeit vaccines," he noted.
In this sense, the President reaffirmed that his administration will be extremely cautious not only about the availability, but also the authenticity and quality of the purchased doses.
Lastly, Mr. Sagasti emphasized that the Government is willing to sign contracts to rely on authentic vaccines for all Peruvians.
