Peru's PM: Elections to be held on April 11, 2021 no matter what

Prime Minister Violeta Bermudez on Thursday confirmed that the Executive Branch is taking all the measures it has to, so that general elections can take place on April 11, 2021, as set out in the electoral calendar.

On the matter, she noted that the elections are organized by electoral entities, which are guaranteed and economically supported by the Government.

"We will be ready in April, no matter what. Besides, the elections are scheduled for April 11. We are taking all the measures that we have to, in our capacity as Executive Branch members," Bermudez said in an interview with ATV channel.

The Cabinet chief praised the Executive Branch's support to the National Office of Electoral Processes (ONPE) in the preparation of seven health protocols for the upcoming general elections.

Likewise, she highlighted the work of the National Police of Peru (PNP) and the Armed Forces to provide security during the elections.

The high-ranking official reiterated that the health protocol for election campaigns in times of pandemic will be published in the coming days.

"We are almost done with the preparation of the protocol for election campaigns in times of pandemic —from a health perspective— which will be published in the coming days," she stated.
