Peruvian boxing champ Jonathan Maicelo will travel to New York City on January 10 to undergo a one-month training program at the High-Performance Boxing Centre in order to prepare himself for upcoming international fights.
Jonathan Maicelo defeated Argentine Miguel Leonardo Cáceres after 10 rounds for the Latino boxing title “Consejo Mundial de Boxeo” (CMB) on 6 September 2009 at the Miguel Grau Coliseum in Callao.
The Peruvian Sports Institute (IPD) will provide air flight tickets, accommodation and feeding for the boxer, also known as “Depredador”.
Juan Zegarra and Carlos Zambrano also train at the High-Performance Boxing Centre in New York.
Jonathan Maicelo Román -born October, 1983- is a male professional boxer from Lima, Peru. On 2009-09-06 he became the first Peruvian boxer to ever enter World Ranking. He is now the holder of Latin American lightweight title.
The Peruvian fighter defeated Mexico’s Javier Gallegos via unanimous decision in a preliminary match-up to WBA super featherweight title fight between Kina Malpartida and Halana Dos Santos.
