Keiko Fujimori won the presidential election for the 2026-2031 term after the vote count from the runoff was completed 22 days later.
Last Monday, Fujimori said she accepted the results with a great sense of responsibility because she will lead a divided country.
In turn, the Uruguayan Government congratulated the Fujimorist leader on her victory in the election following the completion of the vote count from the presidential runoff.
Uruguay also reaffirmed its commitment to "continue deepening bilateral cooperation ties with the sister Republic of Peru, for the benefit of both peoples and regional integration."
Together for Peru Party candidate Roberto Sanchez received a total of 9,173,755 ballots (49.865% of the valid votes).
The National Elections Board (JNE) is expected to officially proclaim the election results on Friday, July 3, when Fujimori will be declared president-elect.
She will receive her credentials on July 15 and will be sworn in as President of the Republic on July 28 during a ceremony at Congress on the occasion of the Peruvian Independence Day.
