The
Inter-American Court of Human Rights on Wednesday required the Peruvian State to refrain from releasing
Alberto Fujimori, following a ruling by the Constitutional Court (TC) that ordered the reinstatement of the humanitarian pardon granted in favor of the ex-President (1990-2000).
A letter sent to Specialized Supranational State's Attorney Carlos Reaño stated that the decision was adopted at the plenary session of the
Inter-American Court within the framework of its 147th Regular Period of Sessions.
The document also indicates that the measure would be applied temporarily, until the
Inter-American Court resolves the request for provisional measures in the cases of Barrios Altos and La Cantuta, in the event of Fujimori's eventual release.
Likewise, the
Inter-American Court indicated that the full text of its resolution will be released shortly.
Previously, the National Coordinator for Human Rights (CNDDHH) and the Association for Human Rights (APRODEH) announced the supranational entity's decision on social media.
Alberto Fujimori is being held at Barbadillo Prison in Lima's Ate district, and is awaiting to be released from prison after the Constitutional Court reinstated the humanitarian pardon granted to him by former President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski in December 2017.
