On the International Day for People of African Descent, the Peruvian Government, through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, expressed appreciation for the contribution that this sector of the population has made to the country.

In a message shared on social media, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reiterated the will of the Peruvian State to continue promoting public policies aimed at ending structural inequalities.

According to the government agency, such inequalities have affected Afro-Peruvians throughout the history of the country.

"On the International Day for People of African Descent, we recognize the invaluable contributions of Afro-Peruvians to the cultural diversity and development of Peru," the post reads.

"Besides, we renew our commitment to the fight against racism and all forms of discrimination," it added.

In this context, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized that all people "are born free and equal in dignity and rights."

Peru, as a member of the United Nations (UN), assumes the position of the UN General Assembly regarding the equality of all human groups.

"Any doctrine of racial superiority is scientifically false, morally condemnable, socially unjust, and dangerous and must be rejected, together with theories that attempt to determine the existence of separate human races," the ministry said, quoting the UN.

In this regard, it stated that the country will continue promoting public policies to end the structural inequalities that have historically affected the Afro-Peruvian people.
