Foreign Affairs Ministry reports arrangements for Peruvians in foreign armed forces

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported on the recent arrangements it has been carrying out regarding the situation of Peruvian citizens serving in foreign armed forces.

In this regard, it specified that on May 6 relatives of citizens believed to be serving in the Russian armed forces were received at Foreign Affairs Ministry headquarters by the acting Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs.

"Immediately after that meeting, the designated ambassador of the Russian Federation in Lima was formally summoned in order to deliver him an updated list of the cases registered by this Ministry of Foreign Affairs," the statement said.

Likewise, it reported that "the request to search for, locate, and provide information on the health condition of our compatriots was reiterated."

"Similarly, the Russian ambassador was reminded that, in accordance with the Political Constitution of Peru (Article 118, subsection 23), serving in foreign armed forces requires prior authorization from the Executive Branch," it indicated.

The Foreign Affairs Ministry statement said that the case of a Peruvian citizen currently under custody of the Ukrainian Army has been confirmed.

On this matter, it added that Peruvian authorities have requested information from said country regarding his exact whereabouts in order to coordinate his prompt and safe return to Peru as soon as possible.

Another section of the document addressed the alleged capture of other Peruvian citizens by Ukrainian troops, noting that "arrangements have been made with the Ambassador of Ukraine in Lima to confirm these events and guarantee their protection."

The statement also indicated that relatives of Peruvian nationals may visit the Foreign Affairs Ministry in person or use the formal channels established to follow up on their cases.

In this regard, it detailed that Peru's Embassy in the Russian Federation remains alert to any communication from Peruvian nationals abroad through the numbers +7 985 389 06 60 (mobile phone), 8 985 389 06 60 (landline in Russia), and wa.me/+79853890660 (via WhatsApp).
