"As part of his official visit to Ecuador, Foreign Affairs Minister Elmer Schialer was received by his counterpart at Palacio de Najas. The two officials are holding a bilateral meeting ahead of the 17th Peru–Ecuador Neighboring Commission in Quito," it was reported on X.
The 17th Peru–Ecuador Neighboring Commission is taking place in Ecuador today.
At this event, binational commitments aimed at promoting the well-being, development, and integration of both countries' populations will be agreed upon, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced.
The Peru–Ecuador Neighboring Commission was created in 1998 following the peace agreements between the two countries through the Expanded Agreement on Border Integration, Development, and Neighborliness.
It serves as a platform for bilateral integration and cooperation.
Its objective is to foster, support, and coordinate programs and projects of common interest that strengthen the comprehensive relationship between Peru and Ecuador.
Additionally, this working group approves action plans, defines the framework for bilateral cooperation, and oversees the Binational Development Plan for the Border Region.
