During his participation in the 76th Latin America Day in Germany, as guest of honor, Foreign Affairs Minister Elmer Schialer highlighted Peru's commitment to strengthening ties between Europe and Latin America through trade and investment promotion.

The event —held in Cologne on Wednesday— fosters economic dialogue between public and private stakeholders from both regions.

During his speech in the first thematic session, titled "Relations between Latin America and Europe at the Dawn of Their Redesign," the government official emphasized Peru's role as a strategic partner.

He added that the South American country projects itself as a reliable partner for Germany and other European countries.

In this context, the diplomat highlighted Peru's economic growth—almost double the regional average over the past two decades—and its macroeconomic strength.

Minister Schialer emphasized that, according to ECLAC, Peru recorded the highest foreign direct investment growth in the region last year thanks to a 57% increase compared to 2023.

Moreover, he noted that our country has a legal framework for the protection of investments, as well as flagship projects such as the German investment in the new Jorge Chavez International Airport.

In the bilateral context with Germany, Minister Schialer described the relationship as particularly auspicious, noting a German commitment of around €450 million in technical and financial cooperation between 2022 and 2025, trade totaling US$2.1 billion in 2024, and an investment surge exceeding US$2 billion.

The diplomat also highlighted that there are investment opportunities in the energy sector, with a focus on energy transition and renewable energies.

Lastly, he proposed the establishment of a permanent political dialogue mechanism between Germany and the region, particularly Peru, which is ready to serve as a bridge between both regions.

"We can turn this relationship into a true strategic partnership for shared growth," he noted.
