Dates set for 2023 Lord of Miracles processions

The Brotherhood of the Lord of Miracles is getting ready to march through the streets of downtown Lima while carrying the image of the Christ of Pachacamilla, as the miraculous Jesus is known in the popular Catholic tradition across Peru.

According to information shared by the organization, the dates for 2023 processions will be October 7, 18, 19, 28 and November 1.

The first procession will take place on October 7. On that day, the venerated image will be taken out of Las Nazarenas Temple —the saint's home— at noon.

The second meeting with the faithful is scheduled for October 18. On that occasion, the platform of the Purple Christ will go out in procession (also from Las Nazarenas Temple) at 6 a.m.

On October 19, the third procession will kick off at 6 a.m. too, but the tour will begin at Del Carmen Church.

The Christ of Pachacamilla will be paraded through the streets of Lima during the fourth procession slated for October 28. The tour is set to start at 6 a.m.

Finally, November 1 will be the last opportunity to join the Lord of Miracles procession.

Dressed in purple robes, hordes of faith-driven devotees will join the final tour of the 'dark-skinned' Christ before returning to Las Nazarenas, where it is to remain until next year.

The Lord of Miracles constitutes Peru's most heavily attended religious festivity and is celebrated by all strata of society in homage to the Crucified Christ.

This image is a replica of a centuries-old mural of the crucifixion painted by a slave in the 17th century.

Thus, the Lord of Miracles became a motive for worship after the wall on which it was painted miraculously survived a destructive earthquake unscathed.
