The 11th ministerial meeting of the 21 Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) economies focused on the mining sector will take place in the southern city of Arequipa in September, APEC Peru 2024 Presidency Working Group Chair Ambassador Carlos Chavez-Taffur announced.

"A new ministerial meeting on mining has just been added to the APEC calendar at the Senior Officials' Meeting in Arequipa; so, we will have that one in September, within the framework of Expomina Peru 2024," he told Andina news agency on June 7.

In this regard, the diplomat said the mines ministerial meeting of the APEC economies will be included.

"We had always been talking about hosting 10 ministerial meetings, which was already a good number, and with this one on mining, it will be 11 ministerial meetings that Peru will have held by the end of its presidency this November," he indicated.
To date, APEC ministerial meetings have been held in the Peruvian cities of Arequipa and Cusco.

The former hosted Foreign Trade and Women ministers, while the heads of Finance and Tourism sectors met in the latter.

Peru is hosting APEC for the third time after the 2008 and 2016 editions.
