The Peruvian Incunabula from the XVI to the XVII Century, preserved at Peru’s National Library (BNP), have been added to Unesco’s Memory of the World for Latin America and the Caribbean, the national library said Wednesday.

The representative of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (Unesco) in Peru, Nilda Anglarill, handed over the certificates of said inscription to Culture Minister Susana Baca in an official ceremony.

The Peruvian documents, just like other 39 texts which date back from 1584 and 1616, are kept and protected by the BNP and the Nation’s General Archive.

These treasures transcend international level as they become part of the world’s documentary heritage.

Moreover, the Traveling Protocol of the Conquistadors (also known as the "Calfskin Book") which contains the first public decrees made during the early Conquest of Tahuantinsuyo, has received similar recognition.
