2026 Elections: More than 1.2 million Peruvians to vote abroad on April 12

01:00 | Lima, Jan. 28.

In total, 1,210,813 Peruvians will vote abroad in the general elections scheduled for April 12, Ambassador Pedro Bravo, Director General for Peruvian Communities Abroad at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stated.

"We already have a final figure for the number of Peruvians eligible to vote abroad," he said in an interview with Canal N, noting that 218 polling stations will be set up for the elections, overseen by 121 consular offices.

Among the cities with the largest number of Peruvians registered to vote abroad are Santiago (Chile), Buenos Aires (Argentina), and Madrid (Spain).

Meanwhile, in the United States, a large number of voters are registered in the cities of Paterson, New Jersey; New York City; Washington, D.C.; Miami; and Los Angeles.

In addition, Ambassador Bravo reported that 21,881 Peruvians have already been selected through a draw to serve as polling station officials, although he said the final figure will be determined in the coming weeks.

He added that, in an effort to improve services and assistance for Peruvians abroad during the elections, 35 students from the Diplomatic Academy—who usually complete their internships at the Foreign Affairs Ministry's headquarters in Lima—will travel overseas this time to support consulates in organizing the electoral process.

It is worth noting that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has created the "Tu voto cruza fronteras" (Your Vote Crosses Borders) platform to provide information on elections for Peruvians living abroad.
