The European Union Election Observation Mission (EU EOM) deployed a total of 50 short-term electoral observers to various Peruvian regions to take part in the presidential runoff scheduled for Sunday, June 7.

EU EOM Deputy Chief Observer Alexander Gray said Wednesday the group will join the long-term observers who have been in the country for several weeks.

"On Election Day itself (June 7), the European Union will have more than 150 observers deployed throughout the national territory, and we will have a presence in all regions," he stated.

The official noted that the EU EOM will implement the same methodology used during the first round, ensuring impartiality and neutrality in its work.

"I would like to take this opportunity to thank all our interlocutors and the Peruvian people for the warm welcome we have received since our arrival in the country," he expressed.

Moreover, the EU EOM official announced that the mission will hold a press conference on June 9 at 10:00 a.m. to present its preliminary findings on the presidential runoff.

"I wish our short-term observers every success in their work, and I also wish the Peruvian people a true democratic celebration," he said.

The press event held to witness the deployment of the short-term observers was originally to be led by EU EOM Chief Observer Annalisa Corrado.

However, she was unable to arrive in Peru due to flight disruptions in Europe.
