The veteran guiding star of Peru’s musica criolla (creole music), Eva Ayllón, picked up on Wednesday a nomination for this year’s edition of the Latin Grammy Awards in the best folk album category.
Ms. Ayllón was nominated by her peers for her latest album "Mujeres Con Cajones", recorded in collaboration with the Cuban-American singer Albita Rodríguez and Olga Cerpa from the Canary Islands.
After 42 years performing onstage, Ms. Ayllón has devoted herself to preserving the heritage of Afro-Peruvian culture: the music and folklore originally forged by African slaves brought to Peru as far back as the 16th century.
Thus, throughout her career, the beloved Afro-Peruvian folk singer has recorded over two dozen albums and has earned multiple Latin Grammy nominations to her name.
The Latin record academy included on the run of nominees for best folk album to C4 Trío and Rafael Brito; Lila Downs, Niña Pastori and Soledad, as well as to the Orozco – Barrientos duo and Totó La Momposina.
That and the other winners of the 15th annual Grammys will be presented in Las Vegas on 20th November in an awards ceremony that will be aired on Univision Network.
