On World Oceans Day, the Presidency of the Republic reaffirmed its commitment to protecting the seas, which are home to extraordinary biodiversity and serve as a source of life, food, and development for millions of people.

"Protecting our oceans is a shared responsibility to ensure a sustainable future for generations to come," a message posted on its social media accounts read.

It was in 2008 that the United Nations General Assembly designated June 8 as World Oceans Day.

This date reminds us all of the oceans' vital role in everyday life. They are the lungs of our planet, a major source of food and medicine, and a fundamental part of the biosphere.
