Jorge Chavez Airport-Chancay Port connection to consolidate Peru as logistics hub

13:08 | Lima, Jun. 8.

The Ministry of Transportation and Communications (MTC), through the National Port Authority (APN), announced that Jorge Chavez International Airport—the main gateway to Lima—will be connected to the Chancay Multipurpose Port Terminal through a logistics corridor that will boost the flow of e-commerce cargo from Asia to South America.

The MTC noted that the initiative involves a US$20 million investment.

It added that the project is expected to be operational before the end of this year.

According to Lima Airport Partners (LAP), the connection is part of a "sea-land-air" logistics model aimed at turning Lima into a regional hub for international cargo distribution.

The MTC explained that the scheme leverages the maritime connectivity of Chancay Port to transport cargo by land to Jorge Chavez Airport, from where it will be distributed by air to various markets across the region.

Warehouse

As part of the project, a modern 6,885-square-meter cargo warehouse with direct access to airport operations will also be built. The facility will help streamline the movement of goods.

This project is intended to reduce transportation times and logistics costs while strengthening Peru's position as a strategic gateway between Asia and South America.

Currently, Jorge Chavez International Airport handles nearly 90% of the country's air cargo, positioning it as a key hub for integration with Chancay Port and for strengthening foreign trade.

With this initiative, the MTC stated that it continues to boost the development of a modern and efficient National Port System, helping position Peru as South America's leading port and logistics hub.
