Venezuela Ambassador presents credentials in Peru

Venezuelan Ambassador Carlos Scull has presented his credential letters to Peruvian President Martin Vizcarra in Lima.

As is known, Scull was designed to become the Bolivarian country's envoy representing the administration of Interim President Juan Guaido in the Inca nation.

The protocol ceremony was held at the Government Palace's Golden Hall on Thursday.

President Vizcarra was joined by Foreign Affairs Minister Nestor Popolizio on the occasion.

Afterwards, the diplomat and the hosting nation's Head of State held a private meeting.

Peru supports the Guaido administration

On January 4, the Lima Group announced it would not recognize the legitimacy of Nicolas Maduro's new government.

Venezuelan opposition leader Juan Guaido assumed the powers of the presidency on January 23 after thousands of protesters marched against Maduro's new term in office.

Likewise, Peru banned the entry of Maduro and 99 members of his regime —including their relatives— to its territory.

It also withdrew its Charge d'Affaires from Venezuela and deemed the Maduro administration as a dictatorship.
