More than 580,000 Peruvians improved their quality of life in 2025 thanks to the completion of 37 drinking water and sanitation projects, carried out by the Ministry of Housing, Construction, and Sanitation (MVCS) in 12 regions of the country.
These projects were carried out in Piura (10), San Martín (9), Cusco (4), Arequipa (3), Ayacucho (2), Cajamarca (2), Tumbes (2), Apurímac (1), Lambayeque (1), Lima (1), Moquegua (1), and Puno (1), providing these communities with access to safe water and basic sanitation services for the first time.
With an investment exceeding 501 million soles (approximately $148.9 million), these projects, developed through the National Urban Sanitation Program (PNSU), have provided more hours of water service and improved pressure and continuity in urban areas.
Furthermore, more than 9,000 households now have new water and sewage connections.
Project details
The projects included improvements to existing infrastructure, the rehabilitation of 5,581 drinking water connections and 5,668 sewage connections, as well as the installation of primary and secondary networks.
In several cases, reservoirs, drinking water treatment plants (PTAP), and wastewater treatment plants were also constructed.
“Water should not be a privilege. It is a right of all Peruvians. Each new connection represents health and dignity,” stated the Minister of Housing, Wilder Sifuentes Quilcate.
The representative of the Executive Branch highlighted among the completed projects the implementation of a water treatment plant and a sewage system that benefit 9,347 residents of native communities in the Awajún district of San Martín.
In Cusco, more than 560 families in Pomacanchi (Acomayo) gained access to these services for the first time, thanks to an investment of 23.5 million soles (approximately $6.9 million).
In Piura, 3,960 residents of the Micaela Bastidas settlement benefited from the rehabilitation of their water and sewage system, a project carried out with an investment of more than 6 million soles.
In addition, the Ministry of Housing, Construction and Sanitation (MVCS), through the National Urban Development Program (PNSU), also launched 24 new projects this year in Piura, Lambayeque, Puno, Lima, Cusco, Ayacucho, Apurímac, Pasco, Cajamarca, Amazonas, San Martín, and Loreto, with an investment exceeding 940 million soles (approximately $279.3 million), projected to benefit more than 1.8 million people.
