With three days left in 2025, hotels in Tumbes are registering nearly 70% occupancy, highlighted Carlos Viñas de Vivero, president of the Regional Chamber of Tourism (Caretur), today.
"These free spaces will be filled by Ecuadorian tourists who, traveling independently, don't make reservations and arrive on December 30th or have already booked an Airbnb," Carlos Viñas told the Andina News Agency.
For her part, the regional director of Tourism for Tumbes, Sandra Dioses Urbina, estimated the arrival of 15,000 tourists, both domestic and international.
According to immigration records, between December 24 and 28, 4,288 Ecuadorians entered Peru through the Binational Border Assistance Center.
Currently, the border between Ecuador and Peru, through the Huaquillas Canton and the Aguas Verdes district, is open, and the entry and exit of people is proceeding normally.
Popular Spots
The most popular places to welcome the year 2026 in Tumbes are the beaches of Punta Sal, Punta Mero, Bocapán, Zorritos, Los Pinos, Grau, La Cruz, Puerto Pizarro, and El Bendito, as well as tours of the Los Manglares National Sanctuary, and visits to Los Pájaros Island, Hueso de Ballena (Whale Bone Island), and the crocodile breeding center.
Tourism operators—from transport companies and boat and yacht owners to restaurant and hotel owners and vendors of seafood ingredients—estimate that the economic impact will be close to 3 million soles (around US$890,000), taking into account the revenue generated by the end-of-year festivities.
Tumbes boasts beaches, forests, mangroves, dry forests, and the great attraction of its seafood cuisine, featuring dishes made with grouper, shrimp, prawns, crabs, oysters, and other ingredients.
