Peruvian nationals who are applying for a visa to enter the United Kingdom and travel after November 9, can withdraw their application because it will no longer be necessary to continue with such process for stays of up to six months, said
Gavin Cook, the British Ambassador to Peru.
The diplomat clarified that it will be necessary to continue with such process if the date of entry to the UK is prior to November 9, because a visa will be required to enter that country in that case.
"There are several options if the departure date is after that (November 9). Travelers do not need a visa. So, they can withdraw their application and travel without finishing the process because it is not necessary," he said on Tuesday in statements to Canal N.
Bilateral relations
Ambassador Cook noted that this decision reflects the nature of the good bilateral relations with Peru. In addition, it will help expand the framework of cooperation between the two nations.
"It is a technical decision of our Ministry of the Interior, but at the same time it reflects our confidence —at this juncture— in Peru, in security, and in the state of our relations because we are working together to achieve many shared goals," he asserted.
One of those goals —he said— is the closing of the infrastructure gap, for which a working meeting was held on Tuesday with the Ministry of Economy and Finance, Peruvian entities, and British firms, in order to discuss the improvement of infrastructure projects.
The British envoy noted that the UK has two government-to-government agreements with Peru on infrastructure issues. One of these projects involves the reconstruction of the damage caused by the Coastal El Niño Phenomenon in northern Peru.
