led the transportation of 25 metal modular bridges on Tuesday to areas in northern and southern Peru, as part of preventive measures aimed at ensuring road connectivity and strengthening response capacity in the event of possible emergencies caused by El Niño phenomenon.
"The Government is transporting 20 metal modular bridges to the north and five modular bridges to the south of our country. These will be transported progressively so that they are available in the areas where they are needed," Fujimori explained.
During an inspection at the Provias Nacional warehouse in Lima's Ancon district, the Head of State highlighted the characteristics of these structures and their usefulness in swiftly restoring traffic in affected areas.
"These are modular bridges that can be adapted and assembled according to need," Fujimori said.
"Their advantage is that they reduce response times through faster installation, allowing traffic to be restored and preventing the population from remaining isolated for days or weeks, or our small-scale producers from being unable to get the fruits of their labor to market," she indicated.
In this regard, the top official indicated that both the Ministry of Transportation and Communications (MTC) and the Special National Transportation Infrastructure Project (Provias) are in charge of identifying the areas at greatest risk, properly distributing the structures, and ensuring their availability when circumstances require it.
"The objective is to provide high-risk areas with the tools to mitigate the impact of El Niño," she emphasized.
When referring to responsibilities in the face of the emergency, the President underscored the need for coordinated action among the different levels of government to mitigate the impacts on the population and infrastructure.
"I want to be very clear: El Niño is a challenge that requires coordinated action by the entire State. Each ministry, each regional government, and each municipality must assume its responsibility," she emphasized.
The Head of State also stated that preventive measures are being implemented with a sense of urgency, as the months in which the effects of the weather phenomenon could occur approach.
"We are aware that, in the past, improvisation, sluggishness, and indifference have been our worst enemies," Fujimori said.
"That is why we are working with a sense of urgency to address this problem, which is expected to arrive in only a few months," she added.
Finally, the President assured citizens that she will continue supervising compliance with the mitigation measures adopted by her Government in response to the possible effects of El Niño.
"You have my commitment that this Government will be present; we will not stand idly by in the face of the population's needs," Fujimori pointed out.
"We will continue working to address any difficulties so that Peru remains connected and supplied, but, above all, very united," she added.
During the event, President Fujimori was accompanied by Transportation and Communications Minister Rafael Rey and Provias representatives.
