As part of the Executive Branch's decision to address artificial intelligence (AI) as a State policy,
signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to boost strategic cooperation between the two institutions in this technological field.
Through this instrument, the entities formalize their intention to promote the adoption of safe, reliable, and interoperable technology, products, and services in Peru, and to foster collaboration among institutions, industries, and experts.
"For the Government, boosting artificial intelligence in the country represents an opportunity for our youth to master cutting-edge technologies, enhance their creativity, and lead the digital transformation to overcome the historical challenges facing our territory," the Cabinet chief highlighted.
In turn, U.S. Ambassador to Peru Bernie Navarro underscored that this agreement will take the bilateral relationship to the next level.
"The Embassy will support the country in strengthening its regulatory framework, training its workforce, developing its digital infrastructure, and negotiating with U.S. companies," Navarro stated.
"The United States is proud to work alongside Peru to build and implement AI in a way that respects its sovereignty and expands its capabilities," he added.
The MOU establishes that AI cooperation will be carried out in the areas of regulation and governance, with the aim of establishing business-friendly regulatory frameworks, digital public services, and data protection; and technology and infrastructure, to develop and adopt artificial intelligence solutions and build secure networks, such as cloud computing, data centers, and 5G equipment.
It also provides for strengthening cybersecurity and digital security best practices; fostering the development of educational and workforce capabilities; and promoting commercial participation involving U.S. AI technology providers and public- and private-sector partners in Peru.
To coordinate the implementation of the three-year agreement, the Presidency of the Council of Ministers designated the Government and Digital Transformation Secretariat as its point of contact, while the U.S. diplomatic mission will be represented by Ambassador Bernie Navarro.
