President Vizcarra: Peru-Bolivia Binational Cabinet is result of a year of work

12:57 | Ilo (Moquegua region), Jun. 25.

Peruvian President Martin Vizcarra affirmed the Peru-Bolivia Binational Cabinet is the outcome of a year of work since the last binational meeting, and not only a two-hour conversation between ministers and leaders of the two nations.

During the inauguration ceremony of the Presidential Meeting and Peru-Bolivia Binational Cabinet, the hosting country's Head of State welcomed his Bolivian counterpart Evo Morales, as well as the representatives from the neighboring country.

Before the start of the ceremony, the leaders and the two delegations observed one minute of silence for the recent death of Peruvian Defense Minister Jose Huerta

Likewise, President Vizcarra indicated his country has many expectations of this gathering.

Furthermore, he pointed out it is necessary to carry out coordination efforts between both countries concerning diverse axes —such as security, defense, environment, and economy— so the Binational Cabinet can have results.

"We have many interests in common, and every year we propose tasks to develop throughout the entire year. Today, we have come here to show both nations (…) the results of this mutual integration effort," the top official expressed.

In this sense, the statesman affirmed this kind of meeting is the outcome of Peru's and Bolivia's effort, not only to strengthen friendship ties, but also to give a better quality of life to their peoples

"The objective is a sustainably developed country with less inequality, where the word development has a meaning for all inhabitants. We are sure this meeting will be fruitful and benefit both countries," he said.

Bilateral agreements were signed on the occasion.

It must be noted Binational Cabinets constitute a mechanism for political dialogue between two nations with the purpose of working on specific issues of common concern included in the bilateral agenda.
