President Vizcarra: More than 1.5 million Peruvians have been tested for COVID-19

15:13 | Lima, Jun. 24.

To date, a total of 1,560,653 Peruvians have undergone rapid or molecular tests to detect COVID-19, Peruvian President Martin Vizcarra reported on Wednesday.

"We have passed the figure of one million and a half samples, and we have reached up to 20,000 tests per day," he noted.

"Today, thanks to the daily figures reported by the Ministry of Health, we can say that of the 264,689 people —who had tested positive— we have determined that more than 60% have recovered, and there are only 104,000 people with the active virus of the 151,589 who have already recovered," he expressed.

Beds

"We must continue to strive in order to reach the goal of 2,000 ICU beds that we have set for the coming weeks," he said.

The top official also noted that —to date— 14,000 hospital beds have been made available for patients with COVID-19 symptoms, and that hospital beds will soon total 20,000.

Remarks were made in a televised press conference to give an account of the Government's actions during 100 days, within the framework of a mandatory social isolation imposed to prevent the COVID-19 from further spreading in the South American country.

On this occasion, the President was joined by members of the Council of Ministers. The event was held at the Government Palace in Lima.

Wednesday marks the one-hundred-first day of mandatory social isolation in Peru.
