Peruvians protest in support of Judge Concepcion Carhuancho

10:24 | Lima, Jan. 17.

Peruvian citizens on Wednesday gathered outside the Justice Palace in downtown Lima to support Judge Richard Concepcion Carhuancho, who has been removed from the investigations into contributions made to Fuerza Popular political party's leader Keiko Fujimori.

The protestors were carrying signs —with messages in support of the judge— and a giant Peruvian flag.

This way, demonstrators expressed their rejection towards the Second National Criminal Appeals Chamber which declared the recusal against Judge Richard Concepcion Carhuancho was well founded.

Said document was submitted by the defense of Jaime Yoshiyama, who was also ordered preventive detention but is currently based in the United States.

Lava Jato Case Special Prosecution Group Coordinator Rafael Vela announced his team will file an appeal to declare invalid the measure to remove the judge.

In Peru, Concepcion Carhuancho has become very popular as he ordered preventive detentions against former Presidents Alejandro Toledo, Ollanta Humala, and candidate Keiko Fujimori —all of them involved in the Odebrecht case.

Humala and wife Nadine Heredia served nine months in preventive detention thru April 2018.
