Peruvian Ambassador to the United Kingdom Juan Carlos Gamarra presented the progress made in Peru's coffee policy to the International Coffee Organization (ICO), within the framework of the 124th Session of the International Coffee Council and other ICO bodies.

The event took place on March 25-29 in the Kenyan capital city of Nairobi.

In this sense, the diplomat explained the goal of the Peruvian Government's National Policy is to achieve an inclusive, competitive, and sustainable economic growth

Therefore, the agricultural policy's priorities are to promote competitiveness on the basis of each region's potential economic development, thus making easier the access to national and international markets, as well as ensuring a sustainable use.

The International Coffee Organization (ICO) is the main intergovernmental organization for coffee, bringing together exporting and importing Governments to tackle the challenges facing the world coffee sector through international cooperation.

It should be noted 44 countries —including Peru— and 6 importing members are part of ICO. They represent 98% and 67% of the world's production and consumption, respectively.

The ICO's mission is to strengthen the global coffee sector and promote its sustainable expansion in a market-based environment for the betterment of all participants in the coffee sector.

Nowadays, the Inca country's coffee is recognized as one of the best in international markets. In addition, Peru is the second producer and exporter of organic coffee in the world.
