Peru's President: Vaccines, the best protective shield against COVID-19

21:57 | Lima, Feb. 7.

Peruvian President Francisco Sagasti on Sunday affirmed that the arrival of the first batch of COVID-19 vaccines shows that Peruvians can work together to tackle any difficulty, adding that their application will be the best protective shield to protect the population from the virus.

Precisely, the Head of State supervised the arrival of the first batch of COVID-19 vaccines —consisting of 300,000 doses— at the Peruvian capital's international airport.

These doses are part of a total of one million agreed with China's pharmaceutical company Sinopharm for the current month.

"We are fulfilling the commitment we made to the entire country to fight the COVID-19 pandemic by obtaining the vaccine that is the best protective shield we have to take care of ourselves and our families," the President expressed.

"We already have the first batch, which will be administered throughout the national territory in a short time," he added.

According to the statesman, these first doses will be applied to the staff in intensive care units, emergency units, surgical centers, and all those on the frontline of the battle against this disease.

The Peruvian leader remarked that this is the beginning of a long and difficult task, since acquiring the doses and the immunization process itself constitutes a great challenge, so that Peruvians are properly protected against the virus.

The first batch of COVID-19 vaccines —consisting of 300,000 doses— arrived on Sunday night in Lima on a flight from Paris (France), where it made a stopover after leaving Beijing (China).
