After casting his vote at a school in Lima's La Molina district on Sunday, the President of the Republic Francisco Sagasti affirmed that he is confident that Peruvian citizens will respect the will of the electorate in this election.

The Head of State called for calm and noted that "there is no reason to be alarmed because all safety measures would be taken during and after the election."

"The participation of all citizens in the voting process is the most important thing. This is a right, but also a civic responsibility and a duty. It is important to cast our vote, strengthen democracy, and have as many voters as possible," he remarked.

The top official hopes that voters' absenteeism will be lower than in the first round of elections, when 18 candidates took part in the race.

The statesman explained that all law enforcement agents are prepared —as in previous situations— to handle any situation that may arise, although he expressed confidence that "citizens will respect the votes and will of the electorate."
