National Elections Board (JNE) Chairman Jorge Luis Salas has affirmed that Peruvians must vote this Sunday with confidence that their choice will be strictly respected.

"The power of your vote will define the situation," he said in remarks to TVPeru on Friday night.

In this sense, the official indicated that citizens must be certain of the safety of the process.

Furthermore, he denied the claims concerning the electoral registry, saying that it had closed a year before the first elections round on April 11, 2021.

"Dead people are not going to vote," he said.

In addition, Salas informed that the JNE will deploy 16,000 overseers who will supervise the electoral process without interfering with the decisions of voting tables' members.
