Peru's President: 4.3 million elders to already be vaccinated in July

The President of the Republic Francisco Sagasti on Friday affirmed that 4.3 million older adults residing in Peru will already be vaccinated against COVID-19 by the end of his term in office (July 28, 2021).

From northern Tumbes region, where he delivered 11,530 AstraZeneca vaccine doses, the Head of State recalled that the population prioritized for immunization purposes are the elderly, as they are the most vulnerable segment.

"70% of deaths have occurred in this age range, as its members are more vulnerable than those of other age groups. Before ending our Transition and Emergency Government, we will have immunized 4.3 million older adults so that they are protected," he expressed.



Likewise, the Peruvian leader said the fight against the pandemic requires joint efforts supported by an organized civil society, regional and local governments, as well as the private sector.

This way, it seeks to ensure —as soon as possible— the supply of medical oxygen that constitutes one of the major problems nowadays, he concluded.
