Peruvian Prime Minister Violeta Bermudez on Thursday affirmed that President Sagasti's administration will lay the foundations to shape a country without corruption —by strengthening institutions and unrestrictedly respecting their functional autonomy.

Within this framework, the high-ranking official said that corruption is an endemic evil, which affects the nation's structures and has unfortunately become normalized in wide sectors of society.

To face this crime, four axes have been outlined: strengthening the anti-corruption systems, supporting the justice system reform, ensuring the autonomy of the State Attorney General's Office, and guaranteeing the conditions so that integrity and transparency are unavoidable in the public sector.

Under this premise, the Cabinet chief announced that the Council of Ministers will propose the creation of a system —led by a supreme prosecutor— specialized in investigating corruption crimes linked to officials, money laundering, and related crimes with the aim of optimizing the organic structure of the Public Ministry.

Likewise, the Prime Minister said the government will strengthen the operational coordination among the National Police of Peru, prosecutors specialized in crimes of corruption committed by officials, institutional integrity offices, and other actors, in order to support highly complex investigative work.

Moreover, Bermudez affirmed that the autonomy of the State Attorney General's Office will be ensured within the framework of the fight against corruption.

She said that —in order to strengthen the State's transparency mechanisms— the Executive Branch will present a bill aimed at relying on a renewed and integrated National Authority for Transparency, Access to Public Information, and Personal Data Protection.

This will involve raising the current authority to the status of a specialized technical body —attached to the Justice sector— with economic, financial, budgetary, and functional autonomy.

Bermudez also stated that the Executive Branch will ensure unrestricted compliance with the presentation of the Affidavit of Interests by public officials.
