Prime Minister Violeta Bermudez affirmed that the principle of State neutrality will be the leading pillar of the Transitional Government's policy regarding 2021 general elections.

Bermudez stressed that all Cabinet members are committed to the Transitional Government and to supporting President Francisco Sagasti in organizing a transfer of power resulting from fair and transparent elections.

"The principle of State neutrality is going to be the rule that will govern our behavior and our activities," she told TV Peru.

Moreover, the Cabinet chief stated that the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic and its impact —not only on health but also on the economy— is among the Executive Branch's priorities.

Given the decline in the number of COVID-19 deaths and infections, Bermudez said that it is good to be optimistic, but not triumphalist.

In this sense, she announced that the entire health strategy will be further strengthened while maintaining a culture of care and biosafety protocols.

Similarly, the recently-sworn-in Prime Minister noted that the Council of Ministers is committed to working with regional and local governments, as well as with citizens.

In this regard, she said the Government will seek communication channels to reach out to young people —through the Bicentennial Generation, which has demonstrated commitment to democratic values.
