12:00 | Trujillo (La Libertad region), Sep. 4.

Peru's Prime Minister Walter Martos on Friday arrived in La Libertad region to supervise the implementation of the Territorial Aid Operation for Treatment and Isolation in Response to COVID-19 (Tayta Operation) and lead a coordination meeting with local authorities as well as legislators representing the region.

On this occasion, Martos was joined by Ministers Pilar Mazzetti (Health) and Carlos Lozada (Housing, Construction and Sanitation).

Upon arrival, the delegation —together with La Libertad Governor Manuel Llempen— supervised the delivery of 30 oxygen cylinders and 2 tons of personal protective equipment provided by the Ministry of Health.

The Territorial Aid Operation for Treatment and Isolation in Response to COVID-19 (Tayta Operation) is one of the multisectoral strategies implemented by the Executive Branch to combat the coronavirus pandemic in the South American country.

It is aimed at assisting —in their homes— the most vulnerable citizens, such as those over 60 years of age, and people with chronic diseases (diabetes, hypertension, among others) that aggravate their health status in case they become infected.

Tayta Operation is led by the Ministry of Health and the Social Health Insurance System (EsSalud), through rapid response teams made up of doctors, nurses and health technicians; as well as by the Ministries of Defense and Interior, through personnel from the Armed Forces and the National Police, respectively.

Interventions are coordinated with regional and local governments to reach the areas where the target population is located.

Since its launch, on June 1, 2020, the operation has managed to screen 11,527 elderly people with pre-existing diseases, of which 3,794 reside in 10 regions across the country, while 7,733 live in Lima and Callao.
