One of the multisectoral strategies implemented by the Executive Branch to combat the COVID-19 pandemic is the Territorial Aid Operation for Treatment and Isolation in Response to COVID-19 (Tayta Operation).

The intervention consists of early detection through screening and clinical diagnosis, early treatment with the provision of medications approved by the Ministry of Health (Minsa), as well as home isolation of infected people and their families, to whom food is delivered so that they can enter a quarantine phase.

Multisectoral strategy

Tayta Operation is led by the Ministry of Health and the Social Health Insurance System (EsSalud), through rapid response teams made up of doctors, nurses and health technicians; as well as by the Ministries of Defense and Interior, through personnel from the Armed Forces and the National Police, respectively, who provide security and support to the operations.

Interventions are coordinated with regional and local governments to reach the areas where the target population is located.

Civil society and private companies are being integrated into these public institutions to improve the impact of Tayta Operation, given that the pandemic simultaneously affects several regions and therefore requires the greatest amount of efforts possible, Prime Minister Walter Martos said on Thursday.

Lines of action

Concerning Tayta's intervention in the primary care level, he noted that health centers and posts are being activated, and that staff visits homes joined by rapid response teams.

"The idea is to rely on 5,000 rapid response teams, which are the ones that will visit households not only to detect positive cases, but also to give them (patients) the medical treatment they need at home," he concluded.
