Housing, Construction and Sanitation Minister Carlos Lozada on Sunday received 100 oxygen cylinders that will improve the health care of COVID-19 patients in Puno region.

The load arrived at Juliaca Airport on two Armed Forces flights and will be distributed to the (health care) networks operated by the Ministry of Health (Minsa) and the Social Health Insurance System (EsSalud).

This reaffirms the commitment made by Prime Minister Walter Martos, who visited Puno on Saturday, joined by Lozada —the representative of the Executive Branch in said region— as well as Ministers Jorge Chavez (Defense) and Pilar Mazzetti (Health).

Minister Lozada explained that, in addition to this shipment made by Minsa, 100 cylinders will be acquired by the Provincial Municipality of San Roman, and other 100 will be donated by the private sector.

According to the government official, this will serve to supply hospitals with medical oxygen while an oxygen plant is mounted in the region.

"This effort is an immediate option while we get the oxygen plant, which is the most effective solution and will take us a few days to accomplish. We are going to support families through these oxygen cylinders," said Lozada, who highlighted the work undertaken by the three levels of government in order to increase the hospital capacity to treat COVID-19 patients.
